KWSSIP is a Government of Sindh project supported by the World Bank to improve water and sanitation services in Karachi and strengthen the operational and financial performance of the water utility. The project includes institutional reforms, infrastructure investments, and project management/studies.
KWSSIP is implemented by the relevant Government of Sindh/PIU arrangements and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), with support from consultants and contractors. The World Bank provides financing and technical support and supervises the project in accordance with the financing and applicable World Bank requirements.
No. The World Bank does not operate Karachi’s water or sewerage system. Day-to-day water supply, sewerage services, billing, service connections, tanker-related matters and operational complaints are the responsibility of KW&SC and the relevant government authorities.
The World Bank does not manage the day-to-day expenditure of the implementing agencies. However, World Bank-financed projects are subject to agreed financing, procurement, financial management, environmental and social, and implementation requirements. The Bank conducts implementation support and supervision and reviews project progress, risks and compliance.
Project information, implementation updates, procurement information and environmental and social documents are published through the KWSSIP website and relevant World Bank project disclosure channels. The KWSSIP website currently provides project information, procurement documents and E&S reports.
You may submit your suggestion through the appropriate KWSSIP stakeholder engagement/feedback channels. However, inclusion of an area in a project investment depends on the approved project scope, technical assessments, investment priorities, available financing and applicable environmental and social requirements.
The Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) is a formal process that allows project-affected people, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders to raise concerns, complaints, suggestions, or inquiries about the project. It is a citizen engagement tool designed to protect your rights, give you a voice, and help improve how the project is implemented.
The KWSSIP GRM is a mechanism through which people affected by project activities can raise concerns or complaints and seek a response or resolution. It is intended to provide an accessible, transparent, predictable and timely process for addressing project-related grievances.
Anyone affected by or interested in the project may submit a grievance. This includes project beneficiaries, community members living in the project area, civil society organizations, and any other individuals or groups who have a concern related to project activities. Vulnerable and marginalized groups are especially encouraged to use the GRM.
